President 2022 - 2023

Reflecting on my time as President of Dance Theatre, I am struck by the profound impact it has had on both my personal growth and the trajectory of the organization. Leading a group dedicated to the art of dance has been a journey marked by challenges, triumphs, and invaluable lessons that could never be taught in a classroom.

One of the most rewarding aspects has been the opportunity to witness and support the creative process. Contemporary dance thrives on innovation and expression, and being at the helm of an organization that fosters such creativity has been exhilarating. I have seen firsthand how dance can serve as a powerful medium for storytelling and emotional connection, and it has been an honor to help facilitate and showcase the talent of our artists.

Navigating the administrative and logistical demands of the role was a challenge, but it has also been a critical aspect of my development. From budgeting and fundraising to managing partnerships and coordinating events, each responsibility has taught me the importance of strategic planning and adaptability. Balancing the artistic vision with practical considerations has often required creative problem-solving and a collaborative spirit with all members of DT, which was both challenging and developmental.

One of the key lessons I've learned is the significance of community. The strength of our organization lies in the relationships we build with dancers, audiences, and members of Miami. Cultivating a sense of belonging and fostering a supportive environment has been central to our success. I’ve come to appreciate the power of collaboration and the value of listening to diverse perspectives within our team despite the struggles it may bring.

Challenges have also been a significant part of the experience. The pressure of ensuring Dance Theatre's stability and navigating the diverse group while all just being college students has pushed me in ways I could have never imagined. However, these obstacles have also highlighted the importance of persistence and the ability to adapt. They have reinforced the idea that setbacks are not failures but opportunities for growth and innovation.

Looking back, I am proud of what we have accomplished together. The organization has not only grown in its reach and impact but has also evolved in its approach to contemporary dance. We have pushed boundaries, embraced new ideas, and created meaningful experiences for both our performers and our audience.

As I move forward, I carry with me a deep appreciation for the art form and a commitment to supporting the continued evolution of contemporary dance. The role of President has been a transformative experience, and I am grateful for the opportunity to have played a part in shaping the future of our organization. The lessons learned and the connections made will undoubtedly continue to inspire and influence my journey as I venture into the real world! Dance Theatre has forever changed me and I wish nothing but the best for years of artists to come!
